BOOK: Amy & Roger's Epic Detour - Morgan Matson
Plot:
Amy Curry thinks her life sucks. Her mom decides to move from California to Connecticut to start anew--just in time for Amy's senior year. Her dad recently died in a car accident. So Amy embarks on a road trip to escape from it all, driving cross-country from the home she's always known toward her new life. Joining Amy on the road trip is Roger, the son of Amy's mother's old friend. Amy hasn't seen him in years, and she is less than thrilled to be driving across the country with a guy she barely knows. So she's surprised to find that she is developing a crush on him. At the same time, she's coming to terms with her father's death and how to put her own life back together after the accident. Told in traditional narrative as well as scraps from the road -- diner napkins, motel receipts, postcards--this is the story of one girl's journey to find herself.
Review:
4/5
"The best discoveries always happened to the people who weren't looking for it."
Perfect summer read!
I simply love everything about this book. I slept at 5am just to finish this one. I just can't put it down.
Is this Morgan Matson's first novel? Wow! For a first timer, she is really good. I wish she could write more 'coz I had fun reading this book. I liked how she narrated the story. How she entered the flashbacks andhow she inserted those song lyrics. Simply lovely.
This book is somehow informative. With the places they visited. With Elvis and music. What road to take. I learned a lot reading it.
And, well, of course, Amy and Roger. I love their characters. It's really sweeeeettt when they got together. I was like waiting the whole time for them to be together and when they did- PERFECT! Not to mention, I also liked the side-characters, the people they meet during the detour. Everyone is distinct specially Leonard and Lucien.
A story about moving on, traveling, loving music, forgiving oneself and discovering the best out there.
